Golden Era of Steamboats

Notice that the lower deck of the Steamboat NATCHEZ is twice as high as the other decks. The lower deck was the main cargo hold, constructed to carry cotton, sugar, corn and rice to the port of New Orleans. During the Golden Era of steamboats, over 75% of the world’s cotton would move through the port, making the Crescent City rich. Today the NATCHEZ is the last of authentic steamboat on the river and a sister company to Gray Line New Orleans.
